Woodinville Girls Basketball Shines Against Tough Competition

WOODINVILLE, WA - The Woodinville Falcons Girls Basketball team cruised through another week, picking up two wins against Peninsula and Bothell. 

The Falcons were in action on MLK Jr. Day on Monday, where they demolished Peninsula 73-29 in the Puget Sound Holiday Classic at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Woodinville sprinted ahead to a 26-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased their lead in a blowout win, against a Peninsula team that is currently third place in their league. The Falcons controlled all assets of the game, out-rebounding Peninsula 56-15, racking up 24 assists, and outshooting Peninsula 41% to 23%. Lyla Kahrimanov led the team with 18 points and 8 assists, Jaecy Eggers added 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Jazyln Wilkerson had 14 points to round out the Woodinville scorers in double digits. 

Woodinville then picked up a crucial win against Bothell on the road, 52-42. Bothell came into the game with a 14-2 record and a 7-1 record in KingCo, meaning that with a win Bothell could tie Woodinville atop the KingCo Crown Division standings. The game was close throughout, with the Falcons finally pulling away in the fourth quarter after leading 40-37 at the end of the third quarter. Woodinville relied on its stellar defense to secure the victory, holding Bothell to a field goal percentage of 29%, 21% from three. In addition, the Falcons grabbed 5 steals and forced 3 blocks, helping secure extra possessions that were crucial to the victorious effort. Jaecy Eggers led the team with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Macartney Noe and Sienna Bieler both had 9 points. The victory  was a great team win with the Falcons getting support from role players as their top scorers had quiet nights. 

Woodinville is 17-2 on the season with the two wins this week and remains at first place in the KingCo Crown Division standings, holding a record of 10-0 in conference play. The Falcons will finish the regular season next week with three home games, a makeup game against Newport on Monday, a matchup with Inglemoor on Wednesday, and a senior night showdown against Redmond on Friday.
