Did you watch “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” performed by WHS Theatre? Our school’s Fall play was a stage adaptation of the famous spooky novel by Washington Irving, adapted by Josh Butchart, Director of the WHS Theater Department. The show was produced by Katharina Bomers-Muller.
I’ve never watched or read “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, but the play amazed me for several reasons. Of course, the talent of the WHS Theatre cast and the spooky, romantic plotline were both astounding. Next, the stage construction: the stage showed the small, colonial New York town, and a backdrop of cornfields gave the audience plenty of autumn vibes. In a party scene, the set made us hungry with a display of delicious Fall foods. And then there's the horse, a horrifying figure represented by a few actors wearing a large covering in the shape of a mighty steed. In my opinion, this prop was the best choice to represent a horse without a real animal or computer graphics. The last aspect I found incredible was the costuming. The dresses and suits are like real clothes from 1790 classic America, not Halloween costumes or cosplay outfits. Overall, this Fall play was an amazing representation of the famous novel, and gave us both warm, inviting fall vibes and a spooky and scary taste of Halloween. For their next performance, the WHS theater company will put on a musical this upcoming winter.. I am sure they will give the audience a great time, just as they did in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”.
