Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow was an overwhelmingly difficult book to read. Fortunately for me, I’m at the peak of a reading phase so finishing this book only took me about 6 days (but other books about the same size take just about two). Let’s start off with the protagonist, Charlie Davis. She has been through so much. From bring kicked out of her home, to living in a sex house, to ending up in psychiatric ward, to moving by herself to Arizona, Charlie is barely keeping her head above the water. She is unimaginably, undeniably strong. Her story made me stop every ten pages just to reel everything in. And the creative writing Glasgow uses to describe her story is just, chef’s kiss. Before I even opened this book a friend of mine warned me about its content, but never did I ever expect such a gut wrenching reckoning. Closing this book left me distraught and teary-eyed. Remember when I said I was the peak of a reading phase? Well, this book left me falling in a down spiral to a slump because nothing, and I mean nothing, can compare to this masterpiece. Read at your own discretion.
