Have you ever tried honey that tasted like it came from the Gods themselves? With the perfect consistency and flavor that, when you return to your sad store-bought honey, you cry. Knowing that you had a slice of heaven, a glimpse of perfection, only to have let it slip away? (I am totally not talking from my own experience and have definitely not shed tears over having to use store-bought honey on toast rather than the honey that was a gift from the heavens). I discovered this God given gift from the holy temple of the Gods, Oddmall.
Oddmall is a craft show, but not just any craft show. It is unusual, weird and unconventional, where like-minded individuals get to express their unique craft in a fun interactive way. Vendors from all across Washington get the opportunity to display, buy, and sell their one-of-a-kind art, clothing, woodwork and food.
Now you may be wondering, will I have to pay to see all these amazing sights? Is it too late to buy a ticket? Are there tickets? And the truth is, friends, the Emporium of the Weird is open to the public! No tickets needed! Everyone is welcome to come, and parking is completely free!
At Oddmall there will be 100 vendors creating and selling jewelry, art (originals and prints), clothing, food (especially honey and fudge), crowns, wings, stickers, wood carvings, light-up 3D art pieces, and so much more! You will be left to wonder how you ever lived without it. There are expected to be about 3,000 people and many first timers describe Oddmall as “Chaotic Awesomeness”.
This year, in the lovely spirit of Christmas Oddmall mall will be having their very own photo booth! Where you can take all of your lovely happy holiday cards with Santa’s brother, Krampus! The horned beast who scares straight the children who misbehave. It will be fun for the whole family and your relatives are sure to love the holiday cards you send them!
And if you are a young, cool, teenager who is too cool for their parents, then bring a couple of friends along. I guarantee you will have the best time of your life, and if you don’t you can get a full refund, on the house! For a total of zero dollars back, your money guaranteed.
You might ponder, with all this fun I am having, won’t I get hungry? Not to worry, Oddmall has three food trucks on the way. You can have fun until your belly aches and then run over and grab a quick bite to eat without missing out on any of the activities! There will be hot coffee, delicious funnel cakes and mouth watering pizzas to soothe your appetite.
So go on down to Captain Slinky Presents: Oddmall, the Emporium of the Weird, November 12 and 13th, enjoy yourselves like Gods- I know I will. Even if you can’t make it this time there are two Oddmall events every year, so come on down to the next one!
Tips for going to Oddmall (or just any convention in general)
Bring the amount of money money you want to spend in cash (not card)
Prevents you from overspending and feeling guilty over the expenses
Sometimes, technology does not want to cooperate, plus there is no service charge when using cash
Have a running list of items you would like to purchase and then later determine what you are going to either by sorting from most favorite to least favorite of by cutting out one really expensive item to buy the rest
If you see something you absolutely adore, ignore the advice above and buy it because chances are someone else is also going to want to buy it and will buy it if you don’t (this is totally unrelated to the honey incident)
Take a break. If you start to feel worn out, sit down, play a couple of games and eat food, then come back and see more. There is nothing wrong with taking a break or leaving when you feel overwhelmed
Go for the food very early or very late
The busiest time for food is between 11:30 and 1. It starts to clear up after that. If you are feeling a little hungry and there is no line or a short line, run, don’t walk,to the food trucks. Don’t go “Oh, I will just see one more little thing, it will only take 30 seconds.” No. RUN to the food.
DO NOT BE STINGY WITH THE ARTIST OR TRY TO HAGGLE THEM. It is rude and insulting.
Make sure to always ask before taking pictures. Some people are worried that their designs will get stolen because some people steal designs. Don’t be rude and always ask.
Bring snacks and water, you might not think you will need it but I have ended up regretting not bringing enough one too many times.
